Michael Swanson

I'm an engineering leader at the intersection of biotech, clinical research and AI agentic engineering, based in Apex, NC, near Raleigh. Over 17+ years I've moved from hands-on engineering to building the organizations that ship it, most recently as Director of R&D Software Engineering at Clario, building regulated medical device software for home blood pressure, spirometry and other physiology endpoints.

A current focus is bringing AI agents into the delivery pipeline. I led the rollout of Claude Code and an AI development lifecycle (AI DLC) to 40+ engineers, and we now run agents in the build pipeline under the guardrails a GxP-regulated environment demands.

That work spans LIMS/ELN, genomics, bioinformatics and imaging pipelines, lab robotics, and GxP/HIPAA-compliant systems, alongside large-scale SaaS platforms. I work mostly in C# and Python on AWS, and still write code.

Outside of work: two kids, a Goodreads list that keeps growing no matter how much I read, home coffee roasting, and a running quest for proper Sichuan food, still chasing that perfect mapo tofu.

frictionlesscode.com is where I write up projects. Reach me through the contact form, or find me here:
